IEC 60598 testing should cover electrical safety, insulation, heat, mechanical strength, and photobiological risks. Ask for the exact applicable part standard, not only “IEC tested.” A laboratory report with model numbers, test dates, and sample photographs is stronger evidence.
CE marking requires a valid Declaration of Conformity and supporting technical files. It is not a universal quality certificate. UL evaluation can add confidence for North American projects, especially where wiring, fire resistance, and abnormal operation are examined. RoHS documentation should identify restricted substances in drivers, housings, cables, and circuit boards. The European Commission’s RoHS framework limits ten substances, including lead, mercury, and certain phthalates.
Lighting efficiency also deserves attention. The International Energy Agency reports that lighting represents roughly 15% of global electricity use. Smart dimming may reduce operating demand, but only when controls remain reliable after repeated switching. I would compare driver efficiency, standby power, flicker results, and thermal testing. Small details matter.
A supplier may show impressive certificates.
That is not enough.
In my purchasing checks, inconsistent model numbers often create avoidable risk. One report may cover a complete system, while another covers only the adapter. Buyers should request traceability records, factory quality procedures, updated declarations, and independent test reports. A manufacturer that answers slowly may still produce good hardware, but weak documentation can delay customs clearance, project approval, or safety review.
